Political Systems Are Rigged

Watching the House Judiciary Committee members yesterday put forth their respective arguments for and against impeaching Attorney General William Barr, I couldn’t help conclude America’s political system, like most political systems worldwide — is rigged.

The partisan arguments for impeachment by the Democratic members of the committee, and against impeachment by the Republican members, were perfectly scripted to show the partisan divide and competing political factions with their competing agendas and the people be damned.

I was channel surfing between the Judiciary Committee hearing and the Hong Kong Legislative Council debates on the proposed extradition law to allow so-called fugitives from justice to be extradited to China.

The partisan arguments for extradition by the pro-Beijing members of Legco, and against extradition by the anti-Beijing members, were also perfectly scripted to show the partisan divide and competing political factions with their competing agendas and the people be damned.

No different than the Brexit debate in Great Britain, and the ongoing factional political debates in most countries that ignore their peoples wishes and demands.

All the debates in all the political systems, be they democratic, socialist, communist or outright authoritarian dictatorships, all have one thing in common. They are rigged in favor of the powerful wealthy families in control and the people be damned.

All political systems are rigged in favor of the wealthy individuals, families and billion dollar companies they control, be they private or state owned. Entrenched competing factions made up of wealthy families and their business interests that fight for control of the political levers of government to keep the system rigged in their favor.

They have the money to buy the political votes, legally and illegally. But their money and political clout cannot buy the people.

That is why the people who can vote, express their populist sentiments by electing populists like Donald Trump.

All people want is peace, justice, stability and hope for a fair share of the economic pie.

Any wonder people are taking to the streets demanding the system be changed? That is what populism is all about. And it is spreading like wildfire globally, and for good reason. Trying to unrig the swamp.
