As a horse-lover who loves to ride and watch horse races, as much as political races, a subject I discuss at length in Custom Maid Spin for New World Disorder (pages 263-265), I can’t help comparing the U.S. presidential race to a horse race.
You don’t put a lame horse in a race, or keep it in the barn, if you are serious about winning the race. Unfortunately, that is what the democrats are doing with Biden.
The democrats had several winning presidential candidates for president that could beat Trump. But the Democratic Party establishment has again misjudged America by nominating Biden, instead of any one of the winners running in the Democratic Primary. Especially, Bernie.
Trump and Pence continue their outdoor nationwide campaign that started during the Democratic Convention, while Biden is self-isolating at home.
Any wonder Trump is now tied in some polls? This after he was more than 10 points behind Biden before the Democratic Convention that started on August 18!
The three debates between Trump and Biden on September 29, October 15 and 22, will be critical for Biden to come across as strong and mentally fit, with a grasp of the facts and figures for him to win. The fact that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to cancel the debates, just like Biden cancelled taking questions from the media, only fuels concerns about Biden’s health and ability to come across as presidential. Any wonder Trump wants to increase the number of debates?
The Vice Presidential debate on October 7, between Pence and Harris, will also be a determining factor in the race.
I’m looking forward to the debates to see if we are watching a real race or just another episode of the Trump scripted political reality show, in which he is portrayed as a winner, running against a lame, old, mentally challenged, presidential apprentice.
Even Bernie would give Trump a better run for the money than Biden, just like he could of in 2016. But again, the Democratic Party and its establishment career politicians and party hacks, decided to go with political tradition and honor old political chits. Biden, certainly has accumulated a lot of political chits over his 47 years in Washington – and he collected, starting with the South Carolina Democratic Primary.
Congressman Jim Clyburn, single-handedly revived Biden’s dying campaign, delivered South Carolina, and as a result, the Democratic nomination. A short-sighted tactical mistake. Clyburn should have stayed neutral in the South Carolina primary instead of playing old-school traditional party politics, betting on a lame horse with chits he owed Biden and the party. Without Clyburn’s endorsement, Biden would have probably still won South Carolina, but not by the landslide he did – and the democratic primaries would continue to be contested. The Democrats should have let the people decide, not the party.
That is what the Republicans did in 2016 and 2020. A lesson to be learned by the Democratic Party political establishment, no matter what they think of the winner.
The reality is, Bernie would have won the delegates and nomination. But Bernie doesn’t represent the Democratic Party establishment. He’s a socialist, a socialist who would bring out enough voters to make the election a real horse race – and maybe even win.
I do miss a good race, be it at the track or campaign trail. I guess I’ll just have to wait until 2024 for the next competitive U.S. presidential race.
